Blue Meanies are a stunning psilocybin mushroom that is both rare and difficult to come by in the hobby. Because of its overall robustness and exceptionally strong teaching potential, the Blue Meanies cubensis is one of the most sought after strains among the amateur microscopy community. Amateur microscopists who wish to examine spores of a fungus that has evolved to thrive in a harsh competitive environment may appreciate the chance provided by blue the strain. We would recommend Blue Meanies for amateur mycologists and expert researchers alike, as it is as easy to study as it is beautiful to examine.
THE DISCOVERY OF THE BLUE MEANIE MUSHROOM
This particular mushroom is native to southern Australia, though some believe it may have origins elsewhere as well. Because of the qualities of this fungus in the wild, the Blue Meanie spore strain receives its name. The mature fruiting body of a psilocybin mushroom includes a significant quantity of the hallucinogenic ingredient in its meat. When damaged, the Blue Meanie strain, like other psilocybin mushrooms, will show a vibrant blue bruising. Because of its robust rhizomorphic mycelium, this strain will colonize quickly in the wild. This leads to a large number of ripe fruiting bodies and many flushes. Blue Meanie is a nickname for the Panaeolus or Copelandia cyanescens (or pan cyan) strain, which grows in similar tropical circumstances to these mushrooms but is far more powerful.
THE GROWTH CHARACTERISTICS OF BLUE MEANIE MUSHROOMS
When discovered growing wild, the caps of these mushrooms are frequently light brown at first, becoming white as they age. White speckles are common on the caps, and many adult caps seem ‘cracked.’ Because the flesh is thin, it bruises readily and acquires a characteristic cyan blue hue when injured. Its stem, or stipe, is thick and tends to be longer and thinner than others, measuring 6 to 12 centimeters in length. Pin sets, flushes, relatively short colonization periods, and a farinaceous odor are all characteristics of these mushroom spores.
